FORGED

Maurice Scott Jr. is a rower with his sights on the 2028 Olympics. He came to us through a longstanding friendship, and because he trusted us to tell his story in a way that would land on a platform as big as NBC Sports Philadelphia. FORGED is the four-part series that came out of it.

The hard part

Editing a life down. Maurice's story had enough in it for a feature-length documentary. The brief was four short, social-friendly episodes.

How we made it work

We storyboarded heavily and mapped how each episode would play before we shot a frame, with three minutes as the anchor for every one. That kept each piece short enough to travel on social and reach new audiences, and it forced us to choose only the most relevant and most powerful parts of the story.

On set

Philadelphia, PA, over three days. Co-directed by Maurice Victor II and Shelby Adair, who also served as director of photography. Produced by MV2 Productions with executive production from Rowfluencers, and made possible by title sponsor Leonard Insurance Group.

The result

NBC Sports Philadelphia liked the series enough to air it on television. Maurice then shared it on his own channels, where it passed 80,000 views.
