Good Shepherd

Joe L Barnes was making Good Shepherd, his first solo project, and he wanted to record every song and every video on a single day. He came to us for our experience in the gospel space and with live recordings specifically — years of work with Maverick City Music and their live sessions with Elevation Worship, Upperroom, Kirk Franklin and others. COUNT ME IN is one of the singles from that day.

The hard part

Equipment. Capturing a live recording well takes a lot of it: around ten cameras with six or seven operators, plus a serious amount of lighting to build the look. Our initial gear order didn't arrive in time, which left us sourcing everything we needed in the week of the recording.

How we made it work

A lot of phone calls. We landed on a hybrid solution — expedited shipping for some pieces, local rentals in Nashville for the most urgent — and got it all in the room. Stressful, but the recording went off cleanly.

On set

Nashville, TN, October 2023. One day, split into a morning session and an evening session. Jazzlyn Victor produced; Maurice Victor II directed and shot. We brought two of our own crew — Justin Lazarri (camera operator, AC and DIT) and Cole Cooper (dolly camera operator) — and worked with Collin Miller, a superb local gaffer, on lighting. The remaining camera operators were sourced locally by the project's executive producer.

The result

The videos rolled out sequentially over several months, beginning in March 2024, with the last released in 2025. Across Joe L's channel the album has reached 8.7 million views.
